Why I made this
Why I made it
Some lads get taught the good stuff at home. How to handle money, look after themselves, keep going when it's hard. A lot don't. And school doesn't teach most of it either.
I've got a young son. When I look at what's out there for young men right now, a lot of it is negative, and a lot of people are being steered the wrong way. I wanted to put something better in front of them. A fair start, for everyone.
This isn't about making you a success story. It's about giving you the tools to thrive.
Where I was
Plenty of what's in this app, I didn't pick up until my mid-30s. Nobody taught me about money. Nobody showed me that doing small things consistently is what actually changes things. I had to find it out for myself, later than I'd have liked.
What actually helped
Two things, mainly.
Money: keeping an eye on it, all the time. Checking my bank account, knowing what's going in and out, actually managing it. It's not easy, even with the tools you've got. A lot of banks now have tools that help, so use them.
The gym. That's what kept my head in gear. I've gone consistently since I was young, and it's shaped me more than almost anything. Running and sport too. They pushed me, and they're a big part of why I've got where I am.
A few things I'd tell you
- Be a sponge. Learn from the right people: a mentor, or a mate you respect.
- Look at your bank account every week, even when you'd rather not.
- Find one thing that keeps your head right and stick with it for years, not weeks.
- Small and consistent beats big and occasional.
It's not perfect. You don't need to be.
